this post is actually a post that I have posted in facebook, but seeing how long it is, I say, why not put in my blog? lol
the article below is taken from my post in this facebook's topic.
the article below is to reply the topic.
What microsoft is trying to do is to combine Yahoo's market share with Bing's powerful engine to fight with Google, as you know, search engines is a big business due to opportunity of advertisement. By combining Yahoo's diverse services and familiar interface(they might even come out with new interface which synergies Yahoo and Live(Microsoft's equivalent of Yahoo) to attract user), they would want to compete with Google.
But the thing is, how many of us would like to change to another search engine because we think that the one we are using is good enough?? I think it is very inelastic, well unless your favourite search engine is always lagging ofcourse.
But how irony it is as Google is now working on Chrome OS that many IT watchdogs have expected it to be better than Windows' OS. As for now, Google says that Chrome OS is intended for netbook(like the one Shar Linn is using) only. But of course, it can be better than that. Look at Android(Google's OS for mobile phones). It has been ported to laptops and have done wonders(with slight glitches ofcourse).
As to reply what Joel have said, with Google's big market share, it would be easier for them to promote their(Google) OS as most of us spend our time using the internet, not the computer alone. After all, majority of the online advertisement are provided by Google Ads.
In the end, we(the consumers) will benefit the most out of these competitions. After all, that is what
a free-market system is!
